Police Crack Down on Separate Intentional Killing Cases in Chuave District
Chimbu Provincial Police have reported the successful arrest of suspects in two separate intentional murder cases that occurred within the same week. One male and one female suspect have been taken into custody and are now being held at Kundiawa Police Station, awaiting court proceedings.
Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Superintendent Mazuc Rubiang confirmed to reporters that the first incident took place last Friday in Raiya village, located in Siane LLG, Chuave District. Willie Yauwe, 30, fatally stabbed his 21-year-old cousin Oscar Joseph during a domestic argument over a missing K5 note.
According to police, the dispute escalated, and Yauwe allegedly used a Rambo-style razor knife to stab Joseph in the chest, resulting in his immediate death.
Kundiawa Criminal Investigation Division (CID) officers responded swiftly to the crime scene in Hevere village. In the presence of local villagers, CID personnel, and Chuave police, the suspect voluntarily surrendered to Detective Constable Inam Robert.
Yauwe has since been formally charged under Section 299 of the Criminal Code for willful murder and is currently in custody awaiting trial.
The second incident occurred in Waiya village, also in Chuave District. Anne Atano, 28, allegedly stabbed Ambai Atano, 24—her husband’s second wife—during a dispute related to ongoing domestic tensions.
The confrontation arose when the victim was reportedly picking coffee from Anne’s trees. An argument ensued, during which Anne allegedly used a kitchen knife to stab Ambai in the rib area, leading to death from excessive bleeding within an hour.
PPC Rubiang stated that Constable Medina Morisa from Kundiawa Police responded promptly and arrested Anne, who was handed over by her husband and relatives. She has also been formally charged with willful murder under Section 299 of the Criminal Code.
The police have urged the public to seek peaceful resolutions to domestic and community disputes and reaffirmed their commitment to upholding the rule of law and public safety.
