On the morning of July 17 (local time), Air Niugini flight PX011, operated with a Boeing 737 aircraft, safely landed at Jacksons International Airport in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea, after departing from Manila, Philippines. The aircraft touched down at 08:25.
Shortly after landing, the flight crew discovered a deflation in one of the aircraft’s tires. The aircraft subsequently came to a controlled stop on the runway.
All passengers and crew members on board were safe, and no injuries were reported.
Following an assessment by the flight crew and maintenance engineers, it was determined that the tire would be replaced directly on the runway to ensure efficiency and safety in subsequent handling.
The maintenance team completed the tire replacement on-site, and the aircraft was towed to the international terminal at 10:08.
Due to this incident, some arriving and departing flights at Port Moresby Airport were temporarily restricted. Several inbound flights were diverted to alternate airports, including China Southern flight CZ5055 from Guangzhou to Port Moresby, which diverted to Lae. Outbound flight CZ5056 from Port Moresby to Guangzhou is expected to be delayed as a result.
As of now, the runway at Port Moresby Airport has been cleared, and normal flight operations have resumed.
Air Niugini sincerely apologizes for any inconvenience caused and thanks passengers for their understanding and patience.
The airline also commended the professionalism of the flight crew, maintenance engineers, operations dispatch team, and airport ground staff, as well as the full cooperation of airport authorities and emergency response teams throughout the handling process.
Air Niugini remains committed to prioritizing passenger safety and continuously enhancing its emergency response and service capabilities to ensure safe, stable, and orderly flight operations.
