On July 13, 2025, a Chinese national residing in Papua New Guinea (PNG) suddenly suffered a severe medical emergency. The situation was critical.
The China–Papua New Guinea Friendship Association (CPNGFA) immediately activated its emergency response mechanism. In close coordination with the Chinese medical aid team in PNG, they conducted multiple hospital visits, provided professional medical consultations, communicated closely with the patient’s family, and successfully arranged for the patient to be flown back to China aboard a China Southern Airlines flight for further treatment—all within two and a half days. The entire operation was executed swiftly, professionally, and efficiently, demonstrating the strength of community coordination and deep humanitarian care within the overseas Chinese network.
According to reports, the patient experienced a sudden stroke, resulting in deteriorating consciousness and severe impairment of motor functions. In distress, the patient and their family urgently sought help from the Friendship Association.
Upon learning of the case, Chairman Lin Huanong promptly instructed the Secretariat to take immediate action. They contacted the Chinese medical aid team in PNG without delay and assisted in arranging a CT scan at a local hospital in Port Moresby. The scan revealed a significant brain tumor with space-occupying lesions and evident symptoms of nerve compression, necessitating urgent medical intervention.
Over the next 48 hours, medical experts from the aid team made several follow-up visits, continuously monitored the patient’s vital signs, and communicated with the attending physician. After evaluating the patient’s condition in the context of local medical capabilities, they issued a clear recommendation: the patient must be transferred to a higher-level medical institution in China as soon as possible for comprehensive treatment.
Meanwhile, the Friendship Association launched a multi-channel coordination effort. On one front, they provided emotional support and clear treatment advice to the patient’s family. On the other, they swiftly contacted China Southern Airlines to arrange for the earliest possible flight back to China.
On July 15, 2025, the patient successfully boarded a China Southern Airlines flight from Port Moresby to Guangzhou. Upon arrival at Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport, the patient was immediately transferred to a top-tier hospital’s neurosurgery department for further treatment.
This incident once again demonstrates that the China–Papua New Guinea Friendship Association is not only a spiritual home for overseas Chinese but also a vital support system during moments of crisis.
Chairman Lin Huanong stated:
“We always put the safety of our compatriots above all else. No matter the distance or the difficulty, we will always step up at the first moment, coordinate resources, and do everything we can.”
The Association also reminds all overseas Chinese to prioritize their health, undergo regular check-ups, and seek timely professional medical assistance in emergencies. They are encouraged to promptly contact the Friendship Association or other relevant organizations so that together, we can safeguard every precious life and hope abroad.
