At 3:00 p.m. on April 22, 2025, the China Enterprises Association in Papua New Guinea held its 2025 Annual Members’ Meeting in the Kokoda Conference Room on the second floor of the Stanley Hotel in Port Moresby. H.E. Yang Xiaoguang, Chinese Ambassador to Papua New Guinea, attended the meeting and delivered an important speech. The meeting was chaired by Mr. Qi Zhihua, Vice President of the Association. Also present were Mr. Jiang Chengsen, Economic and Commercial Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy in PNG; Mr. Wang Hongming, President of the Association; Vice Presidents Mr. Yang Bo, Mr. Yang Zhikai, and Mr. Zhou Wenjiang; along with representatives from all member companies and newly admitted enterprises.
The meeting unfolded in a solemn and orderly atmosphere. Mr. Qi Zhihua opened with welcoming remarks, reviewing the Association’s progress and achievements over the past year.
Ambassador Yang Xiaoguang then delivered a keynote speech. He emphasized that while the current international landscape remains complex and severe, China remains committed to safeguarding its sovereignty, security, and development interests, while actively promoting the building of a community with a shared future for mankind. He called on Chinese enterprises abroad to remain mindful of “the nation’s priorities,” strengthen confidence, uphold integrity and innovation, and strive for greater achievements in the new journey of high-quality development.

Ambassador Yang highlighted four key expectations for Chinese enterprises:
- Uphold political guidance – Stay loyal in serving national interests. Whether state-owned, private, or overseas Chinese-run, all enterprises should align with China’s national development strategies.
- Focus on targeted services – Support steady business development, deepen local integration under the Belt and Road Initiative, and enhance the resilience of industrial and supply chains.
- Tell China’s story well – Deepen exchanges and mutual learning between civilizations, and present a trustworthy, lovable, and respectable image of China through vivid, authentic examples.
- Strengthen internal management – Adhere to clean governance, prioritize product quality and workplace safety, and safeguard the global reputation of the “Chinese enterprise” brand.
Ambassador Yang also stressed that Chinese manufacturing is known for its quality and diversity, and the key lies in enterprises maintaining standards and quoting rational prices—never compromising quality or reputation for the sake of undercutting bids.
Following the Ambassador’s remarks, President Wang Hongming delivered a work report titled “Ten Years of Transformation, a New Chapter of Growth and Win-Win Cooperation.” He reviewed the Association’s journey since its founding in August 2014, describing it not only as a history of Chinese enterprises taking root in PNG and serving bilateral development, but also as a testament to collective efforts and perseverance. With guidance from the Chinese Embassy and joint efforts from all members, the Association achieved solid progress in the past year.

President Wang outlined the Association’s priorities for the coming year:
- Expand membership and strengthen the Association, encouraging more outstanding companies to join.
- Build platforms for shared success, enhancing the Association’s role in resource integration.
- Promote social responsibility, reinforcing credibility and unity through active public engagement.
- Foster interactive development, establishing regular exchanges and mutual learning mechanisms.
He expressed the Association’s commitment to uniting members, leveraging resources, and driving future progress.
The financial officer presented the 2024 fiscal report, ensuring transparency and compliance in the Association’s operations. The Youth Reading Club convener and the “Mulan’s Home” program coordinator each reported on their respective plans for the year, showcasing the Association’s dedication to cultural diversity and gender balance.
The meeting also reviewed and passed two proposals: one on amending the Constitution of the China Enterprises Association in Papua New Guinea, and another on admitting new members. This year, five new enterprises officially joined the Association:
- China Metallurgical Group Corporation (PNG Branch)
- China National Heavy Machinery Corporation (PNG Branch)
- China Petroleum Pipeline Engineering Co., Ltd. (PNG Company)
- MEET PNG (The PNG CHINESE PRESS)
- YANG GUANG TRADING LTD & WICAN CONCRETE
A representative from China Metallurgical Group Corporation (PNG Branch), one of the new members, delivered a speech expressing their commitment to collaborate with the Association for mutual development.
This meeting served not only as a platform for summarizing and planning the Association’s annual work, but also as a critical opportunity to enhance the cohesion and sense of mission among Chinese enterprises in PNG. In the face of rising global uncertainties, the China Enterprises Association in Papua New Guinea will continue to unite and lead its members, strengthen confidence, overcome challenges, and contribute more to the high-quality development of China–PNG economic and trade cooperation.
