On the eve of Easter 2025, as the festive spirit began to fill the air, Thomas Yan, Vice President of the China–Papua New Guinea Friendship Association and Deputy Director of the PNG Chinese Assistance Center, led his team on a special journey of compassion.
As Chairman of BEST GEAR Trading Limited, Thomas Yan visited a rehabilitation center for people with disabilities, the Life PNG Care orphanage, and the Port Moresby Psychiatric Rehabilitation Center, delivering Easter supplies and heartfelt care worth more than 70,000 Kina to vulnerable groups.
Rehabilitation Center for the Disabled — Love Without Barriers
The courtyard of the rehabilitation center came alive with activity upon the arrival of Thomas Yan and his team.
The center, managed by the experienced Gerald Bengesser, has long provided care for individuals with physical and intellectual disabilities.
“These cooking oils, rice, and fresh produce are exactly what we need,” said Mr. Bengesser as he accepted the donated goods. “Especially the mosquito coils and ready-to-eat foods — they will significantly improve our daily lives.”
Thomas Yan took time to inquire in detail about the center’s operations and challenges.

Life PNG Care Orphanage — “Uncle Thomas” Keeps His Promise
The second stop was the Life PNG Care orphanage.
“Uncle Thomas is here!” the cheerful voices of children echoed across the playground.
This marked the fifth consecutive year that Thomas Yan visited these children before Easter. According to director Collin Pake, the donation of lamb, eggs, and fresh fruits would provide valuable nutrition for the children.
“Investing in children is shaping a sustainable future,” said Thomas Yan emotionally at the donation ceremony. “BEST GEAR’s mission is not just about business success, but about giving back to society. Through these small efforts, we hope to help create a better environment for the next generation in Papua New Guinea.”
Director Pake added, “Mr. Yan doesn’t just bring food—he brings hope. Every time, he spends time playing games with the children and learning about their studies. This kind of sustained care is more precious than material help.”
Psychiatric Rehabilitation Center — Fighting Stigma with Compassion
The final stop was the Port Moresby Psychiatric Rehabilitation Center, which houses patients with various mental illnesses—one of the most neglected groups in society.
According to the center’s staff, Mr. Yan’s donations of daily necessities and food will significantly ease their material shortages.
“People with mental illnesses also need social care and understanding,” said Thomas Yan during the visit. “We must break down prejudices and treat every person in need with compassion and inclusion.”

A Grassroots Envoy of China–PNG Friendship
As Vice President of the China–Papua New Guinea Friendship Association, Thomas Yan has long been committed to promoting people-to-people exchanges between the two nations. This Easter charity mission not only reflected the social responsibility of a Chinese entrepreneur but also demonstrated the deep friendship between the peoples of both countries.
“Mr. Yan has shown us what true neighborhood love looks like through his actions,” said a staff member from one of the beneficiary institutions. “His kindness shows us the warmest side of China–PNG friendship.”
In this season of renewal and hope, Thomas Yan’s journey of compassion warmed the land of Papua New Guinea like a spring breeze. From people with disabilities to orphans and mental health patients, he offered equal respect and practical help, embodying the spirit of “boundless love.” As he aptly put it: “True charity is not a moment of giving—it’s a long-term commitment of care and devotion.”
