On the morning of May 23, a serious armed robbery targeting Chinese citizens occurred in the southern district of Port Moresby, the capital of Papua New Guinea.
According to reports, the incident took place outside the SVS supermarket at 2 Mile Hill. Two Chinese men were conducting their daily business activities when they were suddenly intercepted at gunpoint by unidentified armed individuals. The assailants were traveling in a grey Toyota Mark X sedan bearing the license plate number IAF 227. The suspects quickly fled the scene toward Badili after seizing a large amount of cash.
Local police arrived at the scene shortly after receiving the report and have launched an investigation. Authorities have issued public alerts via radio and social media, urging residents in the Moresby South area to report any sightings of the suspect vehicle or individuals involved.
In recent years, economic and trade ties between China and Papua New Guinea have continued to grow, with increasing investments by Chinese expatriates in the country. However, some criminals have begun targeting foreign businesspeople, raising concerns over public security.
Following the incident, Chairman Lin Huanong and Vice Chairman Liu Juncai of the China–Papua New Guinea Friendship Association expressed serious concern. They called on the police to swiftly solve the case and bring the perpetrators to justice. They also urged the government to enhance security measures to safeguard the legitimate rights and personal safety of all foreign nationals.
