On May 22, Chinese Ambassador to Papua New Guinea Yang Xiaoguang met with Mr. Mato, the China-based Trade Commissioner of Pacific Islands Trade & Invest (PITI). Counselor Jiang Chengsen of the Chinese Embassy and staff from the Trade Commissioner’s Office also attended the meeting.
Ambassador Yang provided a detailed overview of the economic and trade relations between China and Papua New Guinea. He noted that under the strategic guidance of the leaders of both countries in recent years, practical cooperation between China and PNG has yielded fruitful results, bringing tangible benefits to both nations and their peoples. He welcomed the efforts of Pacific Islands Trade & Invest in further promoting China–PNG trade cooperation and expressed China’s readiness to work with all Pacific Island countries, including PNG, to elevate economic and trade exchanges and cooperation with China to new heights.
Commissioner Mato stated that Papua New Guinea is the largest exporter to China among Pacific Island countries and that there is broad potential for further economic and trade cooperation between the two nations. He affirmed that Pacific Islands Trade & Invest remains committed to strengthening trade and investment ties between China and the Pacific Island countries, and is dedicated to contributing to regional economic development and the well-being of the people.
