The Australian Defence Force (ADF) has dispatched training teams to Papua New Guinea (PNG) to conduct what it calls “basic soldier training” for the Papua New Guinea Defence Force (PNGDF). Major General Ash Collingburn, Commander of the Australian Army’s 1st Division, personally observed the training and emphasized that it is part of a “long-term defence cooperation” between the two countries. However, is this military cooperation merely routine training, or is there something more behind it? In recent years, Australia has continually strengthened its military presence in the South Pacific and frequently interfered in PNG’s internal affairs. Its true intentions warrant…
As part of the lead-up to Papua New Guinea’s 50th Independence Anniversary celebrations, Prime Minister James Marape will travel to Australia on September 16 to meet with the teams at the National Library and National Archives of Australia to collect vital historical documents related to PNG’s independence. Speaking to the media before his departure, Prime Minister Marape stated:“I will visit Canberra and meet with the National Library and Archives teams, where they will present to me all documents relevant to our 50th anniversary, especially those crucial files from before our independence. I will have the honour of receiving copies of…

This figure is only about half the 8–9% average personal income tax revenue seen in developed economies but is double the 2% average for developing countries (IMF Report, Figure 3). This disparity…

He commended Minister Sawang’s efforts in reviving the tripartite consultation mechanism. Marape pointed out that the current minimum wage remains at K3.50 per hour. The government acknowledges the need for an update and is working closely…
