At 10:00 a.m. on August 29, the State Council Information Office held a press conference in the Press Release Hall on the second floor of the Media Center.
Vice Foreign Minister Ma Zhaoxu delivered a speech around the theme of “China’s Peaceful Development and Building a Community with a Shared Future for Mankind” and answered questions from Chinese and foreign reporters.
In his speech, Ma Zhaoxu pointed out that China has always adhered to the path of peaceful development, which is a strategic choice made by China based on its historical traditions, current national conditions and long-term interests. He emphasized that China’s development is not about replacing or challenging anyone; instead, while striving to achieve its own modernization, China is committed to injecting more positive energy into world peace and prosperity.
Ma Zhaoxu stated that peace and development remain the themes of the times, but instability and uncertainty in the international situation have increased. Geopolitical conflicts, unilateralism and protectionism are on the rise, and world peace is facing new challenges. Against this backdrop, China has put forward the concept of building a community with a shared future for mankind, aiming to promote win-win cooperation among countries on the basis of mutual respect, equality and mutual benefit, and jointly address global challenges.
When answering reporters’ questions, Ma Zhaoxu further elaborated on China’s stance on international hotspot issues. He emphasized that China has always advocated resolving disputes through dialogue and consultation, and opposed handling international relations by force or coercive means. When talking about UN reform and multilateralism, Ma Zhaoxu reaffirmed that China firmly upholds the international system with the United Nations at its core and supports developing countries in playing a greater role in international affairs.
Regarding the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), Ma Zhaoxu introduced that over the past decade, the BRI has achieved fruitful cooperation results and has become an important platform for promoting common development and deepening connectivity. China will continue to uphold the principle of extensive consultation, joint contribution and shared benefits, closely integrate the high-quality development of the BRI with the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and help more countries achieve independent development.
In addition, regarding issues such as China-US relations and China-EU relations, Ma Zhaoxu responded that China is willing to promote the healthy and stable development of major-country relations under the principles of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and win-win cooperation. He emphasized that cooperation is the only correct choice, and confrontation will only lead to a “lose-lose” outcome.
Finally, Ma Zhaoxu called on the international community to work hand in hand to jointly build a world of lasting peace, universal security, common prosperity, openness, inclusiveness, cleanliness and beauty.
