On July 21, 2025, the “Experiencing China • Connecting the World” Global Chinese Media Delegation Tibet Tour, jointly organized by the All-China Journalists Association and the Publicity Department of the CPC Tibet Autonomous Region Committee, was officially launched in Lhasa.
A total of 27 overseas Chinese-language media outlets from 18 countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Austria, and the Netherlands, gathered on the snowy plateau. With pens as bridges and lenses as messengers, they came together to witness the 60th anniversary of the founding of the Tibet Autonomous Region and embark on an in-depth journey to discover, understand, and tell the story of Tibet.
The launch ceremony was held in Lhasa and attended by Jiang Haizhou, Minister of the Publicity Department of the CPC Tibet Autonomous Region Committee; Zhang Xianqun, Deputy Minister of the Publicity Department and President of the Tibet Journalists Association; Tania, Deputy Minister of the Publicity Department and Director of the Information Office of the Tibet Autonomous Region; Tian Yuhong, Member of the Leading Party Members Group and Executive Secretary of the Secretariat of the All-China Journalists Association; Shen Yibing, Director of the Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan Affairs Department of the All-China Journalists Association; and all representatives of the overseas Chinese-language media.
In his speech, Zhang Xianqun highlighted that over the past 60 years, Tibet has transitioned from isolation and backwardness to openness and progress, and from subsistence to moderate prosperity. It has achieved a historic leap described as “leaping forward thousands of years in just a few decades.” He stated, “We welcome all media friends to use your pens and lenses to capture the real face of today’s Tibet, so the world can hear the voice from the plateau and see the harmony and hope here.”
Tian Yuhong emphasized that overseas Chinese-language media serve as vital bridges connecting China with the world. He noted that the “Tibet Tour” is a transnational exchange driven by media and culture, aiming to dispel prejudice, present the truth, and build consensus. Through authentic and perceptible reporting, the international community can gain a more objective and comprehensive understanding of Tibet’s development and cultural heritage.
Speaking as a representative of overseas media, Xuan Xuan, General Manager of the Central and Eastern Europe edition of Europe Times (Austria), pointed out, “Western media often carry bias and misinterpretation in their coverage of Tibet. Our visit here is to see Tibet with our own eyes and tell its story in our own words. Only truth leads to understanding; only exchange fosters consensus.” She also recalled the positive reception of the 2023 Tibet Cultural Delegation’s visit to Europe and affirmed that cultural exchange is the most effective way to eliminate prejudice and enhance mutual understanding.
With the solemn pressing of the symbolic launch button, the week-long media tour officially began.
After the ceremony, all guests posed for a group photo to symbolize the joint efforts of Chinese and foreign media to spread the voice of Tibet and share the positive energy of China with the world.
According to the itinerary, the delegation will visit Lhasa, Nyingchi, and other locations over the coming week, conducting interviews from multiple perspectives including economic development, ecological protection, cultural preservation, and improvements in people’s livelihoods. Media representatives expressed their commitment to professional reporting and international perspectives, aiming to uncover the fascinating stories of Tibet and present a real, multidimensional, and vibrant image of Tibet in the new era.
The “Experiencing China • Connecting the World” Tibet Tour is not only a collective in-depth reporting mission for global Chinese-language media but also a significant effort in the international communication of Chinese culture. It brings new momentum to telling China’s stories—and Tibet’s stories—on a global scale.
