At noon on July 3, 2025, a delegation from the China–Papua New Guinea Friendship Association (CPFA), led by Executive Vice Chairman Mr. Lin Hua’an and standing committee members Mr. Khim TAN and Mr. Anderson TING, met with newly appointed National Capital District (NCD) Metropolitan Police Commander Mr. Warrick Simatab in Port Moresby. The two sides held frank and in-depth discussions on security concerns affecting the Chinese community, particularly the safety of Chinese-owned businesses.
Also present at the meeting were:
- Ben Turi, Deputy Director for NCD and Central Province
- Peter Guinness, Lae Police Commander
- Warrick Simatab, NCD Metropolitan Police Commander
- Leonard Wai, Commander of 9 Mile Police Station
During the meeting, Vice Chairman Lin Hua’an extended his congratulations to Commander Simatab on his new appointment and expressed appreciation for his consistent support and recognition of the Chinese community.
He emphasized that the CPFA will continue to fully cooperate with the police to safeguard public safety, stressing that “maintaining social order is everyone’s responsibility.”
Commander Simatab, in turn, expressed his deep appreciation for the longstanding support the CPFA and the broader Chinese community have given to police efforts.
He affirmed his commitment to protecting the safety and legal rights of the Chinese community in Papua New Guinea, stating that he would dedicate “not 100 percent, but 200 percent” effort to ensuring a secure environment for Chinese businesses and daily life. He encouraged members of the Chinese community to report any security concerns or cases of unfair treatment—especially those involving corruption by individual officers—directly to him for swift and just resolution.
The meeting also addressed the issue of police misconduct and corruption by certain officers. Both Ben Turi and Commander Simatab pledged to take such matters seriously, vowing to investigate and punish any actions that undermine public trust. They encouraged Chinese nationals not to fear reporting such incidents directly to the authorities.
This meeting underscored the strong cooperation and mutual trust between the Chinese and Papua New Guinean communities in the area of public safety. It laid a solid foundation for building a more stable and secure environment for Chinese residents and businesses in the country.
